Short newsletter as I’m currently in Innsbruck for the Roller Derby WorldCup where I’ll be skating for Selección Colombia. Our first game is on Thursday 11am CET against Canada, here’s the link for the livestream if you’re interested.
I’ve been writing about how I’ve been writing about What Things do and what it was meant to be a long-ish three things to enjoy became something else and I feel like I should obey The Inscrutable Exhortations of My Soul and turn it into a new section: Reading Notes. Coming soon to this newsletter. Now, the tools.
1 — Round type: Pointilliser
I love the simplicity of the UI for this project and the possibilities for playing with it. Really fun output too. Made by Ben Elwyn, found through Jim Raptis.
2 - Round and square type: Glyph Drawing Club
Good old-school-looking and simple tool that you can use to create more than just letters, it took me a second to understand that you’re supposed to use the keyboard to add the letters (try q, r and i), but after I got it, had a lot of fun creating patterns, there’s a lot that can be done with it. They also have a blog.
3 - Another round and square type: Squarish
This one is more intuitive in how it works, also cool for making patterns like these and features a few predefined color palettes, made by portuguese design studio Manufactura Independente.
That’s all! Hope you have fun with these tools, and as always, leave me your comments with links to the ones you enjoy. I’m always open to new bookmarks.
